How to paint a Turquoise Wave

I’ve been working on a new wave painting this week “Turquoise Sea”. To show you some of the stages my work goes through I though I would write a short blog post about my process. Here is a time-lapsed video and some photos showing how the oil painting develops over time and how the main turquoise wave element evolves into a finished painting.

Stage One. Here I have mapped out the main areas of this new turquoise wave painting. I have also worked on the main turquoise and viridian green shades. Also the tonal contrast.

Stage 2. I have worked on some more detail particularly on the surf area. Working on some fractal patterns in the foreground

Stage 3. I have added some more highlights to the wave to give it a more 3 dimensional effect

Stage 4. Adding more detail to the background and foreground and now the painting is finished. It is now sold, however is available as a giclee print found here.
