“Ice Storm” Limited Edition Giclée Fine Art Print 70 x 50 cm on Hahnemüle Pearl paper. Also now available as a canvas print.

“Ice Storm” is inspired by the coastline of south Devon. I want the viewer to feel the power of the ocean swell in this painting.  It shows several large wave cresting,  lit by a fading the sun turning the waves ice blue and teal green. The time of day is key here. It is mid afternoon, the light is fading fast. The highlights become a mixture of white, teal and pale blue contrasting with the deep blue and dark sea green of the ocean. This fine art print is from an original oil painting. I like to work in oils because of their versatility. You can layer the paint so that it has a translucency. It is so robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it too. This is another in my series of wave paintings which I started 5 years ago and numbering 50.

Hahnemüle Pearl

has a smooth orange peel texture and a bright neutral white base, it creates really natural black and white images and offers vibrant colour reproduction and great detail too. Resin coated the paper has a fibrous feel. The satin finish of the resin coating gives depth to the image which combined with the texture and vibrant colour reproduction give the image the feel of an oil painting. This is one of the most suitable of the Giclée Art Paper range for mounting.
