Turquoise Waves II original seascape oil painting on canvas. Width 122cm x Height 61cm or 48 x 24 inches. Signed. Unframed. With a certificate of authenticity.
Turquoise Waves II is inspired by the coastline of South Devon and Cornwall. It shows waves crashing onto a sandy beach, lit by the sun turning the water several shades of turquoise, emerald green and indigo blue. The time of day is key here. It is midday the waves are by the strong sunlight. The highlights in the painting are mixture of pale green and blue contrasting with the deep turquoise sea. The foreground shows sea-foam rising up and under the wave and foam crashing onto a sandy beach.
I like to work in oils because of their versatility. You can layer the paint so that it has a translucency. Also It is so robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it too. This is another in my series of wave paintings which I started 5 years ago and numbering 50.
I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. My exhibitions have been throughout Devon and one of my films was been exhibited at the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Teignmouth based artist.
